Terms of use

For the ShackDeck desktop application and the website shackdeck.com. In force from 15 October 2026.

Who is behind ShackDeck

ShackDeck is made and run by Dmytro Hoidenko, amateur radio callsign US0UV. "We" in this text means him. You can reach him through his QRZ.com page.

The application

ShackDeck is free of charge, for private and club use alike. You may install it on as many computers as you like, and you may pass the installer on to others unchanged. You may not sell it, bundle it into something you sell, or present it as your own work. The program and its artwork are copyright © Dmytro Hoidenko.

The application contains third-party components under their own licences: Tauri, React, MapLibre GL, Zustand, i18next, flag-icons, lamejs, ft8_lib by Kārlis Goba, KISS FFT, SQLite, cpal, tungstenite, rustls, reqwest, serde, the Inter and JetBrains Mono typefaces (SIL Open Font License), country outlines from Natural Earth, place names from GeoNames and the cty.dat prefix list by AD1C. The full list is in the About section of the program. The Windows version ships FFmpeg as a separate program for video recording; FFmpeg is licensed under the GNU GPL and its source code is available from ffmpeg.org.

The program is provided as is. We do our best to keep it working, but we give no warranty that it is free of errors or suits a particular purpose, and we are not liable for any loss that comes from using it, to the extent the law allows.

Listening through public receivers

ShackDeck does not transmit. It listens through web receivers that volunteers around the world run at their own expense. Their rules apply when you listen: time limits, the number of listeners, the bands they open. The program shows those limits where it knows them; please respect them, and do not leave receivers running when you are not listening.

Recordings, pictures and decoded text you make with the program are yours. What you do with them, and whether you may publish them, is governed by the law where you live and the terms of your amateur radio licence.

The website

shackdeck.com shows what public receivers heard on the air, as reported by ShackDeck users who chose to share, together with contacts confirmed by both sides. How that data is collected, and how to have data about your callsign deleted, is described in the privacy policy.

You may register one account for a callsign that is issued to you. Keep your password to yourself; what is done from your account counts as done by you. We may remove profile text that is abusive, misleading or unrelated to amateur radio, and we may close accounts that misuse the site.

The API under /api/v1 exists for the ShackDeck application. Automated bulk downloading of the site, or load that gets in the way of other users, is not allowed.

What you share

When you switch sharing on in the program, or fill in your profile on the site, you allow us to show that information on shackdeck.com: hourly summaries of what you heard, contacts from your log once the other side confirms them, and the profile text you wrote. You can edit the profile or switch sharing off at any time.

Changes

The site and the program change often, and we may change these terms with them. The date at the top says when the current text took effect. If you keep using ShackDeck after a change, the new text applies.
